Ecological Benefits: Shrimpton's Creek
Rehabilitation
This weed-infested
creekline was subject to flooding prior to
commencement. The project involved
bulk earthworks, in-creek works, embankment
stabilisation, construction of stormwater
drainage, asbestos remediation, planting,
removal of weed, reshaping of creek batters,
installation of rock riffles and a two-year
establishment and maintenance period.
ESD offered alternative
solutions to erosion and sediment control and
created ecological benefits. Prior to and during
construction, the local fauna were provided with
refuge spots; water dragons, skins and frogs
were sited. Local provenance macrophyte species
were transplanted to ensure local genetic
material was not lost.
