Turning Sand into Gold – bush regeneration makes business sense: Cronulla Business Park

Located behind the sand dunes on North Cronulla beach and historic Botany Bay, this 62-hectare site was an old sand quarry and tip which required an extensive clean-up as part of Australand’s strategy to develop the Cronulla Business Park.

ESD was awarded the landscaping contract due to our experience with flora and fauna habitat and large scale planting projects – expertise that would save Australand time and money.

The area included Kurnell Dune Forest listed in 1999 as an Endangered Ecological Community under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act. The extensive landscaping and environmental works are under strict EPA standards reflecting the high conservation significance of the site. The site includes Green and Golden Bell frog habitat.

Works included bush regeneration, fauna and flora habitat reconstruction, planting 500,000 provenance plant species, soil works to produce plant growth on pure sand and steep batters, wetland construction, gabion walls, broad-scale seeding, irrigation using on-site water, long term maintenance of natural and landscape environment and extensive dune stabilisation works.
