Field Refurbishment: Tryon
Oval
Tryon Oval No 2 is situated
at East Lindfield in the Gordon Creek Catchment.
Above the catchment is low density residential
housing, and down-slope is Council bushland
linking to Garigal National Park and Middle
Harbour. The bushland around the site contains
rare and endangered species and natural features
of significance such as “Lindfield Rocks”. There
is a network of walking tracks and remnant
stonework from the 1930s which is culturally
significant.
Ku-ring-gai Council chose
ESD Landscape Contractors to do a major
reconstruction of Tryon Oval and the surrounding
infrastructure. This involved complete stripping
of the area down to the subgrade, installing sub
surface drainage to the oval, utilising swales
and subsoil drainage to pits to harvest all
stormwater runoff, which after running through
the Gross Pollutant Traps, is then transferred
to a 250,000 litre reservoir which was also
installed by ESD. A kerbed, bitumen access road
to the new tank was also constructed by ESD. A
fully automatic sub surface irrigation system
was also installed which is fed by the harvested
stormwater to keep the turf looking its best.
The final result is a fully self-sufficient,
environmentally friendly playing field which
blends in beautifully with the surrounding
bushland.
